Bernalillo Co. Metropolitan Detention Center PSU
Bernalillo County celebrated the opening of the Health Services addition to the Metropolitan Detention Center in 2006. The new unit in Albuquerque, NM provided 188 more beds for inmates requiring mental health or addiction treatment. The Detention Center houses the largest number of acute psychiatric cases in one building in the whole state. When construction of the new unit was finished in August of 2006, it came in under budget by $570,000.
This project was an addition of the Psychiatric Segregation Unit. It involved adding a new 800A 480V emergency distribution panel feeding several panels and low voltage transformers and a 200A emergency motor control center. We performed a protective device coordination study to ensure proper coordination with motor loads and emergency equipment.
