"We wish to compliment you on the excellent report rendered for the subject plant. The existing and additional new facilities were clearly presented. The breadth of data developed was extensive. And finally, the over-all organization and presentation of data was both practical and attractive. Many thanks."

Boston Consolidated TRACON
The study was conducted in accordance with FAA Order 6950.27, Short Circuit Analysis and Protective Device Coordination Study, Appendix 1, Power System Study. The short circuit, load flow, and coordination studies were performed during the design phase of the project.

A TRACON (Terminal Radar Approach Control) Facility handles regional air traffic, as opposed to a control tower which handles air traffic for a specific airport. The Boston Consolidated TRACON will be served by double-ended 480V, 3000A-bus switchgear. There will also two 1250kW diesel generators, four UPS units (two 225kVA, two 40kVA), three chillers, and two elevators.

This project required selective coordination on critical circuits, with no overlap (including the instantaneous region). This degree of coordination was required through more than fifteen levels of indenture. Through careful product selection, Power Systems Engineering was able to provide this degree of coordination.

The work done on this project will be used by the FAA in the final development of a new TRACON standard. This standard will be used on all TRACON's currently scheduled for design and construction.
