Simpson Tacoma Kraft
The spot market price for MWh of energy has recently skyrocketed. Simpson Tacoma Kraft, a pulp and paper mill in Tacoma, WA, has been purchasing power on the spot market. To reduce their energy costs, Simpson Tacoma Kraft has opted to rent 12 diesel generators to power their paper mill.

During the startup, Power Systems Engineering provided engineering support to Simpson Tacoma Kraft, including investigating NEC issues surrounding the installation of temporary generators and cable tray, performing short circuit calculations, providing various relay settings, and assisting in the startup of four large synchronous motors and other plant equipment. After the generator startup, Simpson Tacoma Kraft hired Power Systems Engineering to perform a harmonics and power factor correction analysis for their pulp mill.
